We had a delightful culinary adventure with the spice tour, a highlight for any cooking enthusiast keen on discovering the origins of everyday spices. The tour was both informative and enjoyable, thanks to our personable guide who also arranged a delicious lunch post-tour, rounding off a truly satisfying experience. While Prison Island may not be brimming with activities, the tranquility of being on the water paired with the quirky charm of the resident tortoises and the island's picturesque scenery provided a pleasant, laid-back interlude to our day. The private walking tour was a standout, capturing our undivided attention with a guide whose expertise and enthusiasm for sharing insights transformed our experience into an interactive learning journey. The intimate setting allowed for personalized interaction and ample opportunities to satisfy our curiosity through engaging discussions. All of these experiences were seamlessly woven into our itinerary, thanks to the thoughtful planning by Tratoli. Each activity illuminated a different facet of our destination, leaving us with lasting impressions and a rich tapestry of memories.

My travel experience organized by Tratoli left much to be desired. During my stay in Stone Town, an unnecessarily early pick-up at 5 am for a 7:30 flight meant a long wait at the airport café following a mere 10-minute drive. The day prior, even other tour guides had cautioned that the pick-up time was excessively early. Upon arrival at the park after minimal instructions, it was a bit chaotic to simply walk towards the vehicles without clear guidance. Identifying my assigned transfer involved locating a sign with my name, which seemed straightforward until it wasn't. The ground logistics were disorganized. Once I spotted my name, I enquired about switching vehicles, only to be refused without explanation. After seating myself, the driver's need for repeated confirmation of my identity hinted at a lack of coordination. Our departure was delayed due to an overbooking issue, which was resolved by placing me in the less-than-ideal passenger seat, a unique arrangement not shared by travelers in other trucks. This resulted in an obstructed view, with the driver's head frequently blocking my sight—evidenced by numerous photos and videos. To properly see, I had to stand, disrupting what should have been an enjoyable journey. The tension escalated when an elephant appeared agitated near our vehicle, and our driver's response was unsettling. Revealing that the truck was reliant on hot-wiring to operate showcased the questionable condition of our transport. In the midst of the elephant's distress, the ignition failed multiple times, undercutting any sense of safety or professionalism. Conveying my dissatisfaction to Tratoli via WhatsApp seemed futile, as their lack of concern added to the overall disappointment. The entire expedition was a far cry from the seamless adventure I had envisioned, reminding me that meticulous trip planning and quality checks are key to ensuring positive travel experiences.

Our Zanzibar adventure began punctually with our driver from Tratoli ready and waiting at 4 am at our Jambiani AirBnB to start our journey. After a drive of just over an hour, we promptly arrived at the airport and boarded our flight on route to the Mtemere Airstrip, setting the stage for an unforgettable day of wildlife exploration. Although there was an initial hiccup at the reserve with our names absent from the guides' rosters, the on-site team quickly came through by providing a standby tour guide. This fortunate twist gave us the luxury of a private safari tour, making for an exclusive experience for myself, my girlfriend, and our guide. Through the 9-hour excursion, we were enthralled by the sight of diverse wildlife, including majestic giraffes, powerful lions, towering elephants, basking hippos, graceful antelopes, and a myriad of other animals. Our guide, Songoron, impressed us with his expansive knowledge and warm disposition, enhancing our interaction with the wildlife of the reserve. As the safari drew to a close, our guide escorted us back to the airstrip around 4 pm for our return flight to Zanzibar. The same dedicated driver from Tratoli picked us up, culminating a seamless travel experience from start to finish. Overall, this safari is an essential experience for visitors in Zanzibar, offering a transcendent exploration of one of the most awe-inspiring natural habitats my girlfriend and I have ever had the pleasure to visit.

Experience an enriching journey through the history and culture of Stone Town, Zanzibar with Hassan, our exceptional tour guide. His expertise in the artistic and architectural heritage of the area is unparalleled. During our memorable tour in August 2023, we had the exclusive opportunity to enjoy a private Taarab performance, thanks to Hassan's local connections. Tratoli provides an excellent travel package, ideal for those eager to dive deep into both the past and present cultural landscape of Stone Town.
