My anticipation was met with letdowns that starkly contradicted the promising descriptions offered on Soraka's website and in conversations with the company's owner. Red flags surfaced immediately when an unusual payment request was made to remit the balance via the owner's personal Zelle account, an unconventional method typically reserved for transactions among friends. Post-payment, communication with the owner dwindled, leaving me to chase up essential details such as airport-to-hotel transport, which should have been routinely provided. The expedition's climax—summiting Kilimanjaro—ended prematurely and puzzlingly. Despite successfully reaching Stella Point without health issues, my aspirations for Uhuru's Peak were dashed as our guide, without clear explanation, ushered us hastily downward. This rush resulted in injury; my toenails were damaged, leading to bleeding and intense pain. Requests for a medically advised helicopter evacuation were dismissed, and despite the owner's awareness of my condition, I was encouraged to continue descending painfully on foot, relying on porters' aid due to the severity of my discomfort. It later surfaced that time constraints were cited as the reason for not reaching Uhuru's Peak, yet this claim feels unsound given the ample time I had to rest at camp, which was inconsistent with the "limited time" explanation. Contradicting Soraka's website guarantees of a celebratory tea and snack at Stella Point, no such offerings or chances to press on to the summit were presented. Moreover, the safari portion, which included the Ngorongoro Crater, was marred by the guide's disregard for my welfare, culminating in a distressing episode where I was left locked inside a vehicle amidst bustling traffic, endangering my safety. To encapsulate, the disheartening experience with Soraka Tours stemmed from a lack of clear communication, unfulfilled commitments, and a disregard for customer safety and satisfaction.
