His extensive knowledge and impressive driving skills allowed us to explore various watering holes and venture off-road in pursuit of elusive leopards and wild dogs. Although those particular animals remained out of sight, we were treated to the sight of plenty of hippos, alligators, giraffes, and baboons, adding delight to our excursion. Unfortunately, the walking safari on the last day didn't live up to expectations. The experience felt contrived, with a large group of 20 travelers meandering in a small loop just off the road. Our guide, a local villager whose attire seemed more for show, spent time recounting his past encounters with wildlife, including the boastful tale of killing a hippo, which was not the authentic bush walk experience I had anticipated. Additionally, the condition of the jeeps used was less than satisfactory, lacking air conditioning and plagued with a faulty back door that remained ajar, letting in a relentless cloud of dust during the strenuous 5-hour journey from Dar es Salaam and back. To further dampen the experience, the first day's river safari was guided by a boat captain with limited English proficiency, which hindered our understanding and enjoyment. For travelers considering a safari, my advice is to set your sights on Serengeti instead of Kihindo.
