Exploring Prison Island's tortoise sanctuary offered an intriguing and enjoyable experience. On the other hand, our visit to Spice Island came with a unique twist as we encountered a heavy downpour. It's important to note for future travelers that engaging with the locals often leads to spontaneous gestures like crafting palm frond hats or fetching coconuts from trees, which customarily warrant tipping. Unfortunately, we found ourselves without cash as it was left in the van. A friendly suggestion for Tratoli would be to communicate these tipping expectations beforehand to guests for a smoother experience. Additionally, the language barrier with our driver posed minor challenges. He did not inform us that a guide would be meeting us at the Spice farm, which could have been beneficial to know in advance. In Stone Town, travelers should be prepared with some local currency, as shillings are the preferred method of payment. Many vendors there do not accept dollars or US credit cards, and this information would be useful for Tratoli to include in their travel package details for those who book with them.
