Venezuela's entry rules are workable but volatile — they genuinely change with little notice, so treat this page as the map and your nearest Venezuelan consulate as the territory. Two constants: arrive by air if you can, and keep your passport on you once you're in.

The rules as they stand
- 90-day tourist card on air arrival
Citizens of the UK, US, Canada and Australia receive one at the airport — passport required, and airlines may ask for onward tickets.
- Everyone else: visa in advance
Most other nationalities, including Indian passport holders, arrange a visa through a Venezuelan consulate before travelling.
- Overland entry needs a visa — and sits in no-go zones
Land entry from Colombia or Brazil requires a visa for all nationalities, and the border strips themselves fall inside FCDO no-travel areas.
- Carry your passport at all times
Police spot-checks happen and travellers without ID can be detained. Keep photocopies of every document stored separately.
- Flights are limited and changeable
Commercial availability in and out of Venezuela shifts — book flexible tickets and reconfirm close to travel.
Frequently asked questions
Can I just turn up at a land border?
No. Overland entry from Colombia or Brazil requires a pre-arranged visa, and the FCDO advises against all travel within 80 km of the Colombian border and 40 km of the Brazilian border — fly into Caracas instead.
