The travel experience curated by Tratoli was nothing short of magnificent! The local guides were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly engaging, ensuring we all had an unforgettable time. The cuisine throughout the trip tantalized our taste buds, and our campsite remained immaculate, offering a cozy haven in the wilderness. The highlight for me was the enchanting night beside a crackling bonfire, an experience that truly warmed the heart. Topping off the adventure was the awe-inspiring sight of a lava eruption, a reward that far exceeded the efforts of our trek. This adventure was the epitome of a well-organized and thrilling trip, melding natural wonders with top-notch hospitality.

As seasoned travelers with a deep appreciation for sustainable food systems and the preservation of traditional culinary practices, we often find ourselves underwhelmed by the standard offerings of industrial tourism, seeking experiences that offer authenticity and a true connection to local culture. It is with great enthusiasm that I share our remarkable adventure booked through Tratoli; it was the pinnacle of our Guatemala visit, providing a uniquely personalized and impassioned immersion into the practices at the Little Green Farm. Michael, the proprietor, embodies excellence in stewardship and a meticulous attention to detail, serving as an inspirer in the regenerative agriculture movement. His hands-on approach meant he personally chauffeured us, ensuring we delved into the nuances of coffee production, mastered tortilla-making, and crafted our own delectable guacamole. This tour is an absolute must for those intrigued by the secrets behind the rich flavors of Guatemalan agriculture and is superb for family trips – my 12-year-old son was thoroughly entertained. It transcends the typical tour experience and shouldn't be missed by anyone eager to explore the vibrant world of local farming.

One of our most memorable excursions, we experienced a delightful journey filled with excitement and discovery. Through Tratoli, we booked an exquisite travel package that offered us an intimate view of Guatemala beyond the well-trodden paths of Antigua. Our guides, JJ and Alex, were exceptional—bringing a wealth of knowledge and a personal touch to our adventure. Our day was adorned with visits to charming smaller communities that unveiled the rich tapestry of Guatemalan culture. We had the pleasure of sampling the finest local offerings at a quaint wine producer, indulging in artisanal chocolate delights, and savoring the natural goodness at an organic macadamia farm. Our educational foray into the world of Guatemalan jade was enlightening, as we marveled at the intricate creations before us. Every stop was a treat for the senses, making this tour an absolute highlight of our travels. For those seeking an immersive cultural experience, look no further—this tour is a gem that should not be overlooked. Join in on the fun and taste the hidden treasures of Guatemala with a day well spent celebrating its artisanal wonders.

I recently embarked on an awe-inspiring volcanic adventure organized by Tratoli, which easily ranks among the top five experiences of my life. The majestic power of nature was on full display as we witnessed eruptions at night, so vivid and authentic that it mirrored the photographs – our guides mentioned we were fortunate to experience such frequent and intense volcanic activity. The thrill of seeing lava bursts under the night sky moved me to tears, a rare occurrence for someone who isn't overtly emotional. The raw beauty of the environment transported me to a prehistoric era where I imagined dinosaurs once roamed. I strongly advise opting for the overnight stay, as it's the only way to witness the glowing lava flows. Regardless of how fatigued you may feel, it's imperative to invest the additional 200Q (approximately USD26) to trek from Acatenango basecamp up to Fuego. The proximity to an active eruption was nothing short of breathtaking. Do not anticipate comfortable sleep; this is an experience where rest can wait until your return to Antigua—absolutely worthy of the sleepless night. Considering the inevitable exhaustion, I recommend spending an extra night in Antigua post-hike, a welcome reprieve to refresh yourself with a well-deserved shower. Adequate acclimatization to Antigua's altitude is also key before attempting the hike, especially if you haven't been at a similar elevation recently. As an avid hiker, I found the ascent challenging yet manageable, with frequent pauses to accommodate climbers. Don't underestimate the altitude's impact, as base camp rests around 11,600 feet (about 3500 meters). Those less inclined to carry their gear can employ porters. Hydration is critical, and while 4 liters of water are suggested, I advise preparing with more as I consumed 6 liters myself. Local vendors offer water and Gatorade along the route; however, I recommend conserving the provided water entirely for camp use. My experience did not include the additional sunrise hike to Acatenango's peak, as I cherished the sunrise from base camp after a night with little rest. However, should you wish to embark on this extra journey, be prepared to increase your water intake further. This once-in-a-lifetime volcanic sojourn, courtesy of Tratoli, delivered an unparalleled encounter with the vigor of the earth—a must for adventurers and nature enthusiasts.
