As we ventured through the historic site, we encountered the prominent temples, comprising roughly half of the fascinating area. For those physically fit, completing the full site is manageable, although the tour tempo is unhurried due to the guide's thorough narratives in both English and Spanish. It's important to note that an entrance fee of 150 Guatemalan Quetzals per person is mandatory, and this has to be in cash, as neither dollars nor credit cards are accepted. Despite the tour's comprehensive coverage, the signage and educational placards on the trail provide ample guidance for independent exploration should one choose to do so. The customer experience began with a slight hiccup with the tour coordinator who, speaking only Spanish, failed to efficiently guide us to the correct bus amidst the confusion. Miscommunication and a lack of attention led to discomfort in seating arrangements and a delayed acknowledgment of our need to withdraw cash—essential information that was not clearly indicated on the booking platform, Viator. Navigating this initial oversight, we still managed to secure the required funds, thanks to our insistence, and the remainder of the trip was unmarred by such issues. While it is rumored that a more economical self-guided option exists, it was not presented as part of Tratoli's offerings. Despite these challenges, the tour provided a robust and educational experience for those eager to delve into the rich historical fabric of the destination.
