Our exclusive excursion lasted approximately 7 hours, during which Gert's extensive historical expertise greatly enhanced our experience. As an amiable and entertaining companion, Gert added to the enjoyment of our journey. Our first destination was the ancient site of Betrint, where Gert illuminated the ruins' history for us. The site's preservation and the depth of knowledge shared by our guide made the visit truly remarkable. Ksamil Beach was our subsequent brief stop, offering a moment to capture the scenic view of the trio of islands and refresh ourselves with some cold bottled water, courtesy of Gert. We then proceeded to the Blue Eye nature reserve, where we were greeted by the awe-inspiring sight of the natural spring. The 2-kilometer paved walk to reach the spring was well-maintained and the heat manageable, even though swimming is prohibited at this location. Concluding our tour was a visit to Lekuresi Castle, which presented us with stunning panoramic views of Sarande and the island of Corfu. Here, we absorbed more of Albania's rich history. Our day ended with Gert's recommendation of a local taverna renowned for its authentic fare, a mere 20-minute stroll from our apartment. If you're touring in April, the weather is pleasant—not too hot. For summer trips, be prepared with water, a hat, sunscreen, and perhaps flip-flops for the beach. 5.
