In keeping with Sikh traditions, the gurudwara serves free vegetarian breakfasts every morning on the second floor.For a very different market experience, head to the enormous Chatuchak Market on the weekend. The 15,000 stalls sell everything from street food to aromatherapy oils, silk scarves to tooled leather belts. It’s popular and crowded, but for good reason, and is a must-visit place for shopping and browsing if you’re in Bangkok on a Saturday or Sunday.

There’s a bus stop in front of the fort, but the closest metro stop is a good half-hour walk away, so you may find taking a tuk-tuk or taxi the most convenient way to get here.Phra Sumen Fort and Santichaiprakarn Park are delightful in the early morning and around sunset when the weather is at its nicest. The park is also a popular spot for sunrise and sunset exercise classes. If you’re sensitive to the sun and heat, avoid visiting between 11am and 3pm, when the sun can be overwhelmingly powerful.If you happen to be at Phra Sumen Fort for one of the rare Royal Barge Processions, you're in for a treat. These ceremonies, which have been taking place for around seven centuries, feature processions of up to 105 beautifully crafted barges, most of which belong to the royal family or branches of the Thai armed services. They are only held in honor of special events, such as royal jubilees and coronations.
