Siege of Sarajevo: Tunnel of Hope & Olympic Bobsleigh

The encirclement of Sarajevo, the lively capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, represents a dark chapter in recent history, setting a record for the longest siege of a capital city in the annals of contemporary conflicts. The siege began with the Yugoslav People's Army's blockade and continued under the Army of Republika Srpska's grip from 5 April 1992 until 29 February 1996—a staggering 1,425 days—which outlasted the historical sieges of Stalingrad and Leningrad. Throughout this grim period, the citizens of Sarajevo faced extreme shortages of food, water, medical supplies, and other essentials, all while enduring brutal acts that were deemed inconceivable as the 20th century drew to a close. Our tour offers a profound exploration of the siege, shedding light on the dissolution of Yugoslavia and highlighting Sarajevo's unwavering spirit as a beacon of multi-ethnic and multi-religious harmony in the Balkans. Join us to uncover the resilience and tales of survival from Sarajevo's darkest yet most defining years.
