I had an absolutely fantastic day thanks to the punctual 7AM pickup by Patrick for our drive to Hell's Gate & Naivasha, all seamlessly arranged by Tratoli. The bike tour at Hell's Gate, led by Reagan, was truly exceptional. Reagan's assistance in navigating river beds was invaluable, ensuring a slip-free experience while offering insightful explanations and abundant information. The wildlife encounters were extraordinary, with zebras crossing just an arm's length away and intimate views of giraffes, buffalo, warthogs, monkeys, and the elusive rock hyrax, which were all new to me. Adequate hydration is key, so remember to bring an ample supply of water. Following our descent, a simple yet satisfying buffet lunch replenished our energy before we set out for Lake Naivasha. The boat ride there was a spectacular venture, providing up-close encounters with hippos, a diverse array of other wildlife, and countless species of birds inhabiting Crescent Island, making it an essential experience for any nature enthusiast. Our travel experience with Perfect Safaris, organized through Tratoli, was exceptional, featuring a day tour to Hell's Gate National Park and Lake Naivasha that left us with unforgettable memories. The journey to the park started off with a scenic 2-hour drive, during which our driver, Ng'ang'a Isaac, kept us engaged with insightful stories about Kenya, its capital Nairobi, and the day-to-day life of its inhabitants. His blend of professionalism, courteousness, and humor made for an enjoyable ride. One of the tour's early highlights was a stopover at the stunning Great Rift Valley, where we soaked in its splendor and engaged in some lively Kenyan haggling over souvenirs—albeit a bit overpriced, it was an absolute delight. Once at Hell's Gate, we picked up our bicycles and, accompanied by an NP guide, set out to traverse the park. Pedaling among free-roaming zebras, giraffes, buffalos, and warthogs (affectionately referred to as Pumbas), we partook in a truly mesmerizing 8 km ride that felt like a page right out of a storybook. Though there was an optional gorge hike, it paled in comparison to the cycling adventure, perhaps due to the day's heat. Nonetheless, the tour continued to impress with a remarkable boat ride on Lake Naivasha—albeit an extra but worthwhile expense. Spotting wildlife such as hippos, impalas, waterbucks, zebras, and witnessing an African Fish Eagle in its hunting glory was the pinnacle of our tour—a spectacle that cannot be overstated. Post the wildlife encounter, we indulged in a sumptuous lunch before heading back to Nairobi. Prospective travelers should note the homeward journey can be dusty and warm without air conditioning, but don't let this deter you; a little preparation with a face mask and extra water goes a long way. Despite this, our tour was a standout experience during our stay in Nairobi, richly deserving of a high recommendation.
