While busiest on weekends, the museum rarely feels overly crowded. Stay late on Wednesday, when Mudam Café puts on free live concerts and performances from 6pm to 11pm.MUDAM is built into the ruins of Fort Thungen, a historic fortress erected in 1732 to protect the city against invaders. The museum’s architect, I. M. Pei, designed the building as an extension of the fort that would sync the ancient and modern together.

The LACS’ Roots and Leaves Museum is the centerpiece of this attraction, with permanent exhibits detailing the story of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the immigration history of Luxembourg–Americans, and the current relationship between Luxembourg and the United States. You can also stop by the research center to see if your genealogy connects you back to the tiny European country (and maybe even the Grand Duchy himself).<ul><li>While the museum is open to the public, accessing the research center needs an appointment.</li><li>LACS has created a self-guided audio tour that starts in downtown Belgium and ends at the museum if you’d like a deeper dive (find it on their website).</li><li>LACS also runs language classes, events, and festivals, and can even assist with dual citizenship.</li></ul>The Luxembourg American Cultural Society and Center can be found in the tiny town of Belgium, Wisconsin, right off N Royal Ave, one of two major streets in town.
