In July 2024, we embarked on a captivating Crete adventure and unforgettable day tour organized by Tratoli, which provided us with a comprehensive and wonderful introduction to the island. The Crete excursion proved to be a day of one-of-a-kind experiences, despite the warmth of the season and our coach's air conditioning facing challenges. Ioannis, our knowledgeable guide, greatly enhanced the journey with his engaging stories and facts about Crete's history and the various sites we explored. It's worth mentioning for future guests, prepare for some additional expenses during the tour: Zeus Cave entrance fees are €6 for adults and €3 for children; a delightful lunch at an Olive Oil Mill will cost €15 for adults and €10 for children; and access to the majestic Knossos Palace comes at a price of €15 for adults and €7.50 for children. Our tour guide, Yianni, was particularly extraordinary, offering profound insights into both Cretan and Greek history with a warmth and enthusiasm that made the whole experience shine. Equally impressive was his punctuality and his life-affirming positivity. In the same vein, our encounter with Tony, another guide on the journey, was a delight. His sense of humor was infectiously entertaining—just remember to remind him to keep his backpack with him outside of caves! The tour itself was an absolute gem on the majestic island of Crete. The historical narratives and perspectives shared by Yianni were enlightening, and the meal included in the package was delectable. It comprised dining at a quaint, family-owned taverna, participating in an enlightening olive tour, enjoying cultural exchanges at a local coffee shop brimming with artifacts, and marveling at a breathtakingly beautiful monastery.
