Beyond the reef, Moalboal works as the closest base for Kawasan canyoneering, which sits about 30 minutes away. That proximity is the town's other main draw: you can spend one day underwater with the sardines and the next scrambling and jumping through the canyon, then be back beside your guesthouse by evening. For travellers who came to Cebu's southwest chasing adventure rather than resort polish, having both within easy reach from a single budget-to-mid base is the appeal.

When you want sand rather than reef, the shoreline in front of Panagsama is reef-front rather than a wide beach, but White Beach is nearby for a more conventional stretch to swim and laze on. The trade-off to weigh before booking is distance: the town sits roughly 2.5 to 3 hours from the airport, so it rewards travellers settling in for several days over those planning a quick overnight stop.
