I enjoyed a serene weekend getaway in Bahir Dar, focusing on the tranquil pleasures of fishing rather than the usual monastery visits. Thanks to Tratoli, I embarked on an exceptional half-day fishing excursion with Melesse, who exceeded my expectations. Conveniently, he picked me up from my hotel, the highly recommended Kuriftu Lodge, right in his boat. Throughout the day, we visited various fishing spots across the lake, successfully catching a variety of barbus fish. Alongside the angling adventure, we were treated to sightings of hippos, diverse bird species, and Nile monitors, enriching the experience. The shaded boat provided comfort from the sun as Melesse shared his impressive knowledge on local wildlife and cultural insights. This memorable fishing journey on Lake Tana offered a unique, relaxed alternative to the conventional tours in the area.
